Coffee Machine/Machines |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
There are a myriad of coffee machines on the market today, so selecting the correct coffee maker for either your office or home is not as easy as it seems at first glance. It is important that some research is carried out into the types of coffee on the market and that the purchaser and/or users fully appreciate a number of key questions, ie, usage and drink variety. Usage is critical to determining the correct coffee machine. Over-estimating the usage means you may have an office coffee machine that is not being fully utilised, lying idle for long periods of time and costing you money. Under-estimating how often the coffee dispenser is to be used will eventually result in any drinks vending machine constantly breaking down or dispensing sub-standard drinks. Something to bear in mind in an office environment - research has proved that where the coffees are offered at no cost, users tend to drink as many as three or four cups a day, whereas if there is a charge for the coffee, then consumption reduces to just one or two cups a day. Therefore, if the usage is small, say no more than 20 to 30 cups of coffee a day, then a Bravilor Pour and Serve filter coffee machine or a Flavia coffee pod machine may be a good solution. However, should the demand be in the hundreds of cups of coffee per hour, then either a Bulk Brew, something like a Marco Quikbrew or one of the larger Bean to Cup coffee machines (Franke Evolution). Some Bulk Brewers can provide approximately 360 cups of coffee per hour and would be a better option for high volume instant delivery. Once potential usage has been estimated, the next key question to consider is whether a variety of drinks is to be offered. The choice is again huge – filter coffee, black or white coffee, espresso, latte, cappuccino, mocha etc. However, there are coffee systems that can offer straight forward black filter fresh coffee on a small scale, for example, a Pour and Serve filter coffee maker, or on a larger scale, eg, Bulk Brewer, to complex machines that can offer a vast array of coffee and milk based drinks, ie, instant or fresh coffee Bean to Cup coffee makers and espresso pod system coffee machines. Whilst there are other numerous questions that need to be considered when purchasing a coffee machine, a final key question relates to cleaning and maintenance. All drinks vending machines will need to be cleaned, maintained and descaled on a regular basis, but the type of coffee system purchased will determine how often this has to happen. The regularity of cleaning is determined by the complexity of the machine. A simple pour and serve filter coffee maker would need the glass jugs to be cleaned properly daily and the whole coffee machine to be descaled once every month or so, depending on usage and hardness of the water. However, a fresh coffee and milk Bean to Cup coffee machine will need a full clean of all the interior components and, in particular, all the milk elements on a daily basis. |
