In 2007, the retail sales value of Fairtrade Coffee in the UK was £117m, up a massive 33% from 2006. It is estimated that approximately 20% of all roast and ground coffee sold in the UK is now Fairtrade. With 70% of the population recognizing the Fairtrade symbol and understanding what it stands for, this figure is likely to grow. This is according to a number of recent surveys carried out by the Fairtrade Foundation.
Consumers have, over the last few years, become very aware of the great work the Fairtrade Foundation does to improve the lives of farmers from developing countries. As a result, their domestic shopping habits have changed significantly over the last three years, with many now choosing Fairtrade products to enjoy at home. Currently, numerous big organizations are also realizing their corporate responsibility and are choosing to use Fairtrade Products in many areas of the office as possible.
One of the easiest ways to do this is use Fairtrade Coffee for all staff and visitor drinks. In addition to helping poorer nations, the coffee actually tastes great, as Fairtrade has surpassed expectations with regard to quality and taste. It is now possible to have Fairtrade Coffee in beans, filter, cafetiere, bulk brew and instant. So whatever preferred method is used to deliver great tasting coffee in the office, there is a Fairtrade Coffee to suit.
