In fact, take up of Fuel Their Day has been so enthusiastic this past year that our annual contribution to charity Only A Pavement Away increased by 130%, to £4825.50.

“Some of our larger new customers are making Fuel Their Day their regular order, so we’ve seen good growth,” says Roast & Ground founder Catherine Gray, who first conceived the idea of this charity coffee when she spotted Only A Pavement Away on social media during lockdown.

Stability Through Employment

Only A Pavement Away supports people looking to rebuild their lives through employment opportunities in the hospitality sector. The charity act as a bridge between forward-thinking hospitality employers and charity referral partners to support people facing homelessness to rebuild their lives through employment.

The concept of the charity coffee is simple: 25p from the purchase of every pack goes to Only A Pavement Away – a donation that Roast & Ground then matches, so that for each pack our customers buy the charity receives 50p.

“We’re now into our third year of selling Fuel Their Day and are really excited about the momentum it’s gaining,” says Catherine.

Where the Money Goes

Roast & Ground’s latest donation has been put into a grants pot that offers recipients financial support once they’re in employment. This means they can pay for things like haircuts, and travel to and from work, in the period between being hired and receiving their first pay check.

“This extra support has meant a lot to me as it has helped me concentrate on my new role, access the work rota and information on my phone, ensure I would arrive at work on time (sometimes as early as 4.30am!) and help me settle into the new accommodation I have found. I am very grateful.”
